Cityscapes: My Experiences

What are some of the most common features of cities?

Cities these days often have tall building and skyscrapers in the most central part of the city. They have suburbs around this central part with small residential housing. They would also have bodies of water in the city whether it be a still bay or lake or a rough, wavy beach. Roads are very common in a city as that would be the easiest way to travel around the city. There would be cars, trucks, taxis, buses, bikes and other vehicles on the road at any given time. You would hear the sound of one of these vehicles zooming past on these roads. There would also obviously have to be water pipes, electrical wires, wifi wires and other infrastructure to allow the city to run smoothly. Schools, universities, colleges, childcares, preschools and other forms of education would be present in a city as well. Safety is important in a large city so fire and police stations as well as hospitals would have to be in a city. Roadwork and other construction sites would also make the city safer and you would be able to hear the noise of a drill, construction vehicle or a crane. The most important part of a city is the people. There would be people everywhere. There would be people walking to get somewhere, doing their jobs, eating at a restaurant or cafe, hanging out with friends or at home. This would generally be the main noise of a city; the constant chatter of thousands or possibly millions of people living their everyday lives.

What do you consider to be crucial in a city?

I consider many things to be crucial in a city. People, being the most important part of a city. Without people, there would be no point of having a city. Cities are supposed to easily support the population of an area in a small space. Another crucial element of a city is safety. We need safety so we do not get hurt. Police stations, fire stations, hospitals, fences, signs and many other things all contribute to our wellbeing and safety. Other crucial things in a city are entertainment, parks, eateries, occupations and businesses.

Using five lines, describe how cities make you feel.

Cities generally make me feel very small, unimportant and insignificant to the world around me. They make me feel like I get lost in my everyday life and don’t know where I am heading. My body feels like I am drowning in a huge lake of people everywhere. I very much dislike cities. They make me feel slightly angry as this is what the world has come to. Cities are big messes of the world.
